The St. James Chapter
The St. James Chapter was established in 1974 and was the second of the five (5) Chapters to be formed for the then Jamaica Professional Secretaries Association (JPSA) now JAAP. The Chapter distinguished itself over the years as a champion of the Association by providing outstanding leadership, developing programmes and civic projects.
Achievements
The St James Chapter has won several awards, such as Most Outstanding Chapter on numerous occasions and consecutively in 1997/98 and 1998/99.
The Chapter has participated in the annual All-Island Administrative Professional (APOTY) and Boss of the Year Competitions (BOTY) and has won the titles several times since its inception. Additionally, the Chapter has won the All-Island Boss of the Year Competition a total of nine (9) times and the All-Island Administrative Professional of the Year Competition a total of ten (10) times. The Chapter made history by winning both titles consecutively in 1998/99, 1999/2000 and again in 2002/2003 and 2003/2004.
Membership
Current membership stands at twenty (20) Full Members and six (6) Life Members.
Civic Projects
The Chapter’s main civic projects are the Montego Bay Women’s Centre and the Montego Bay Learning Centre. Each year the Chapter visits the Women’s Centre and donate care packages to the young mothers while the Chapter provides mentorship and treats for the children at the Montego Bay Learning Centre.
Training & Education
The Chapter aims for two training seminars each Administrative Year. One seminar targets persons who are attending school and are budding Administrative Professionals; while the major seminar targets working professionals.
The Chapter invites members of the business and civic communities to make presentations at monthly meetings.
